Wilderness Explorer Program

June 8 or June 16, 2024 at 10:30-12:30

Presented by the US Forest Service and NH Fish and Game. Scouts will be broken into four 25-minute programs as they learn outdoor awareness from professionals working in the field. Scouts will earn their Wilderness Explorer patch and certificate for participating. Smokey Bear will be on hand during the awards celebrating his 80th birthday!

  1. Forest Rangers will guide Scouts on a nature walk using a scavenger hunt to see what is hiding in the forest.
  2. Strike it rich! Scouts will learn how to pan for gold from an experienced prospector. See if you leave with gold fever.
  3. Scouts will meet and learn about the work of wildland firefighters. How can you help prevent fires?
  4. A NH Fish and Game Conservation officer (and possibly a K9 unit!) will teach the Scouts about their work keeping our wildlife resources safe and healthy.
